NJ Chefs Battle in the Kitchen for a Great Cause
It was an impressive scene to photograph last Sunday February 28, 2016 in the commercial equipped kitchens at the Crystal Point Yacht Club in Point Pleasant, NJ where the enticing smells of smoked duck, aged cheeses, pastry dough, fresh seafood and herbs filled the air. The best part of the scene was watching chefs from all age groups (including teenage) and skill levels, mix, sauté, batter, bake, chop, and plate beautifully presented hour 'derves to be served to their patiently waiting guests having cocktails and being serenated by a classically trained pianist in one of the attractively appointed ballrooms of Crystal Point Yacht Club.
The event was Winterfest, an evening sponsored by the American Culinary Federation Jersey Shore Chefs Association, which is comprised of the most talented in the culinary field from Executive chefs, Pastry chefs, caterers, culinary educators and junior members. The club's goals are to encourage networking between culinary professionals and to volunteer their time mentoring & educating young culinarians reach their dreams of entering the culinary field. This year the ACFJSCA celebrated their 25th Anniversary by presenting to the public an evening of delectable hors d’oeuvres, which was a competition for groups of junior chefs along with the assistance of their senior chef mentors in which they recreated recipes/menus from past Winterfest events. Later in the evening Executive Chefs showed off their culinary skills by presenting tempting dishes at various chef stations placed throughout the banquet room. The evening ended with presenting awards in gold, silver and bronze medals for chef’s choice, hot and cold categories.
The event was followed by a Silent Auction in which proceeds collected would financially support such charities as the Food Bank of Ocean and Monmouth Counties, The Victor J. Houston Scholarship Fund, which assists with the education of culinary students in high school, college and professional levels, Child Hunger Day and various other charities.
It was truly an honor to volunteer our photography services and time to cover such an awesome event, which benefits so many great causes. We again would like to thank the event’s gracious hospitality of Executive Chef Nick Mercogliano, President of the ACFJSCA and Executive Chef Ray Cattley Manager of The Food Bank Of Ocean and Monmouth Counties and former president of ACFJSCA. We wish their continued efforts of using their culinary expertise to give back to their communities a successful future.
